Discussion between the Director of ITPC Sydney and the UTS Global Studies Students

Hi ITPC Partners, Director of ITPC Sydney, Ayu Siti Maryam held a sharing discussion with the Faculty of Global Studies students of the University of Sydney on how they can develop their business skills. Ms. Ayu said that she started to be intrested in international trade whilst studying International Law in University. The principles she learns during her degree, help her to connect with the importer and exporter from around the world. She mentions that under the IA-CEPA, there are a mechanism called powerhouse concept which is when 2 countries collaborate and contribute in the global value chain. Instant noodle is one of the examples, Australia provide the wheat and Indonesia has the capacity to produce to the downstream market. This emphasises on the Australian Indonesia relationship as a mutually benefit trading partner.

We also held a discussion about trade shows, Trade show is important to connect both buyers and sellers. It provides opportunities to network with peers and get to introduce what you offer to them. Expo started in 3000 BCE, same concept but different name, for instance, market. 1879 & 1880 Sydney and Melbourne International exhibition are the two first trade fairs held in Australia. The evolution of modern trade fairs begun to grow in Asia during the 21st century. The Indonesian Ministry of Trade initiated the Trade Expo Indonesia 2021 to easily connect and provide access to stakeholders, due to the geographical location of Indonesia with many islands. And also because of the pandemic, the expo will be hold virtually which will make things more complicated. Most people need to physically see and feel the product to assess the quality of the products. Most potential importers are looking for a good level of trust, where it is important for them to sell products that are produced ethically and the existence of the exporters (or suppliers) are real, and not scammers. We can’t wait for this event!
